peggy

Peggy Lau Kim Keow. Always has something to complain to my mom ... about me.. what else.
She lives in a mansion near Parit Ponorogo, somewhere near the TNB's power distribution center. To me then, her house was equivalent to one of the english manor in Enid Blighton's Famous Five books. The house is long gone now. Someone told me that her family had sold the house and moved to Singapore.

lagi lagi...

Lee Kim Tiong .... My arch nemesis.. Intelligent Kid. Son of Lee Kon Tang, a successful entrepreneur of Kampong Pantai Layang. I remember 2 things about his father. He drives a peugeout 404 and had just started a "diesel" business. Esso , if I still get it right. When Esso launches its Disney character promotion drive, this guy has heaps of mickey mouse and the gang stickers for the whole class. Kim Tiong is also a Bruce Lee fan. Yeah, in the early 70s Bruce Lee was The man.. He sold me a TLR camera for RM15. Unfortunately it broke down not long after I bought it. That camera was the start of my passion for photography... Thanks bro.

Kim Tiong scored 4As in the standard 5 Penilaian exams and went to Sekolah Menengah Sains Kluang, while I went to High School Bandar Maharani, thats Muar for you people from out of Johore. Our frienship ended when we were in form 1 when I said the most stupid thing to him out of frustration with my self. I was a troubled kid, during my teen age life, mainly due to some bad experience in primary school. Come to think of it, its only recently that I come to terms with myself. I pray nto Allah that my kids will have a better chance in life.

Sekolah Abdullah, Sg. Mati, Muar, Johor

When you reach 40ies, the hunger over memories of your childhood haunts you like never. Bangkit Senyum is like Panadol 's Activefast whenever you get your headache, Good but never good enough. Where are my primary school classmates from 1967 to 1972, now? Where are my primary school classmates?.. I want them back.. Heck , they could be living here in Petaling Jaya. We ccould have rubbed shoulders at the Digital Mall in Section 14 without recognising each other.. Ruginya..

Lets see if I can remember all of you in my class, 1A in 1967.

1. Kartini Bt. Mohammad.
Her father is a sailor, whether its the royal navy or a merchant ship I could not recall. She's skinny thin, keeps her long hair tidy with some sort of ribbon. She moved to Jay Bee when we were in standard four. Remembered she was in my Hari Raya Eidil Fitri Greeting card priority list until I was in Form 3.

2. NorAisyah Bt. Abdul Karim.
She was kartini's best friend. They were always together and often acted like they were closely related. They were not, I found out later in life when I managed to ring her up one raya night in 2005 I reckon.. Her house (what used to be her house in Sg. Mati) was seldom occupied. Whenever I go back to Muar, I always make sure to see if this house is occupied and once in 2005 it was. I stopped by and asked for her phone number. Dialled her number and talked about the good old days for nearly an hour.(Giler tu mahal line celcom masa tu.). Learned that she was doing her degree in University Sultan Idris, in her first year then. Prior to that she was teaching in a school near UTM Skudai Johor Bahru. Lost her number and couldnt get in touch with her since then.

3. Yaakob Ismail.
I still remember his grand father's name, Allahyarham Cikgu Ismail Pantil. Lived in Tanjung Gading, A big wooden house by the Muar - Malacca federal highway. A shy person quite person, He can draw pretty well. He has an elder brother whos name is like mine. I do not have many friends in school, but Yaakob is one of my best buddies. I wonder if he still remembers Alice the Mat Salleh girl and her horse which likes to eat carrots. Yaakob, I miss you bro.

4. Khatijah Ali.
One of the fairest.. no, make it the fairest of them all (not even the chinese girls). Very soft spoken and quiet girl. Yaakob likes her a lot. She lives in Serom 3. Whenever we visited Cikgu Md. Nor during hari raya, we always drop by her house.

5. Allahyarham Baharuddin Hj. Hamid.
Left us when he was in his ealy twenties. Very soft spoken and very humble and nice guy. Protected me from the bigger guys at Sekolah Agama, Bukit Kangkar. Tau tau aje lah.. kat Sekolah Ugama ni ada yang dah tingkatan 3 tapi dok darjah 3 lagi kat sekolah agama. ;)

6. Lokman
Sorry man, tak ingat nama ayah kamu. When I was with the Dept. Of Civil Aviation, he gave me a surprise visit when he came to renew his helicopter pilot license. He was still with the army, at that time. I have moved job three times since then. We talked on the phone after that, but just like all my other primary school buddies.. poof.. gone.. no more contacts...

7. Fadilah Yusuf.
Best friend. Buddy category. Almost like family. When I last met her, she's a lecturer with UTM Skudai.Maybe now shes already a Maths Professor or higher..

8. Maznah Hassan.
Her locks were blond. Couldnt miss that. Her father was a Police Sergeant with the Royal Police stationed at the Sg. mati Police station. We quarrelled alot when we were in primary school. I goofed a lot and she was the type who do not tolerate "silliness". She was my Ping Pong Mixed Doubles partner in the Blue House. Every time I missed she whacked me on the head with her ping pong bat. We became best friend for the very short stint in Lower 6, High School Muar. The last time I bumped into her in 1984 at Pertama complex (rambut dah hitam masa ni) she had just finished her teachers training college. Maznah, wherever you are, I wish you all the best.

9. Sabariah Mohd. Amin.
Her father was a police corporal also at the Sg. Mati Police station. Nice soft spoken girl. I remember she has a brother who bit his own tounge off regularly. Also nice guy, her brother.

10. Jamiah Jaafar.
Its true, kids can be cruel sometimes. She has a high cheek bone profile, just like the beautiful models you see in fashion column in the Sunday papers. But kids at that time find her high cheek bones amusing and the only people they can compare her to is Red Indian women folks as seen on telly. She used to cry when Mad Dom and the Serom gang called her "apache"..
Met her once at "Bas Stand Kelang" in 1983. She was with her ITM colleages. Mas tu cun giler anak dara tu. Tak berani aku nak gi dekat.. About 4 years ago I met her again at Mid Valley. She now has a Cleaning Contract Business.. Lupa dah nama company dia. Contact pun dah hilang. Anyway, Tahniah la Jamiaah. Semoga terus Berjaya.

11. Mohd. Dom Abdullah.
A sportsman with a high level of self confidense. Last time I met him was in 1986 in Bayan Lepas Airport Pulau Pinang. He was then a police officer (Inspector) with the Police force. Sg. Petani kot.. tak ingat dah..The meeting was arranged by Zainal Abidin, a year my senior at Sekolah Abdullah. Zainal Abidin was then with Jabatan Pertanian and was stationed at Bayan Lepas Airport Quarantine Dept.

12. Mahzan Abdul Kadir
My tuiton mate. A well mannered boy. Sakit hati jer bila mak aku selalu compare dia ngan perangai aku.. He was in the bank Industry. Started working with a Bank in Brickfields. Baik Baik zan, kat Brickfields tu ramai gadis India yg begetah ( cun la ikut istilah sekarang)..
I think was the word of wisdom I gave him the last time we met..early 80ies juga la agaknya.

13. Azlan
Equivalent of Maznah for the male gender. His father was an army pensioner, a hard working farmer. Every time I met his father, he was in his green army shirt/pants. Azlan is high spirit and strong personality. Will not break easily. Had a few punch outs with him. I never won. No wonder he geths through to RMC and starts his voacation as an army Lt. Cant remember how he earned his nickname as Lan Jagung though. His mom was very nice to us everytime we stopped by his house. During Hari Raya in those days, his house is one of my "must go to" house.

Ill see if I can get some pictures into this blog of mine. Bangkit Senyum did a good job. I am not competing for the top of the blog spot. I just hope I get to see my old friends and teachers too. Enough ranting for the day.. kita jumpa lain kali..
